Healthy Food Benefit
Eat Better. Get Paid. Welcome to the Vitality HealthyFood Benefit
Because nothing says “adulting” like cash back on broccoli.
What is it?
Vitality’s HealthyFood Benefit rewards you for making better food choices — yes, really. Get up to 25% back in Ðiscovery Miles when you buy healthy groceries at Checkers or Woolworths (in-store or online). Think fruit, veg, chicken breasts, legumes, whole grains, and fat-free dairy. Sadly, Woolies Chuckles won’t make the cut.
How it works:
- Vitality members- activate the benefit via the Discovery app or website.
- Choose your primary in-store partner and primary online partner: Checkers or Woolworths. You’ll earn higher rewards there.
- Link your store loyalty card (Xtra Savings for Checkers / WRewards for Woolies).
- Swipe that card every time you shop. Make sure it’s linked to your online store profile too for online purchases.
- Earn up to 25% back in Ðiscovery Miles, paid monthly into your Discovery Miles account.
Pro tip: Complete your Vitality Age assessment and Health Check every 12 months to unlock the full 25%. The spouse on the policy will need to complete them too where applicable. Skip them and you’ll be stuck with just 10%.
Cashback Power-Up: Got a Discovery Bank account? Then you’re in for a treat. Depending on your account type, Vitality Money status, and monthly spend, you could earn up to 75% back (best case scenario) on HealthyFood items. That’s not a typo — It’s the healthiest hack to reward-rich living.
What can you earn? The amounts below exclude the Vitality Money (Bank discount portion)
- Up to R625 back per month if you’re the only person on the policy
- Or up to R1,250 per family
What’s in and what’s out?
✅ Apples, chickpeas, low-fat milk, brown rice, skinless chicken
❌ Bacon, chocolate, juice, crisps– basically anything that belongs at a braai.
To make things easier, you can spot qualifying healthy items by looking out for the Vitality “V” symbol on shelf labels and your till slip.
How do you actually get the cash back?
Your Ðiscovery Miles land in your Discovery Miles Account once a month. From there, use them for flights, fuel, shopping, or — ironically — unhealthy snacks.
Bonus if you bank with Discovery: You can convert those Ðiscovery Miles to real cash straight from the Discovery Bank app.
Quick FAQ's
Do I have to shop at only one store?
🛒 Here’s the best part: You can select different partners for online and in-store shopping.
Prefer shopping at Woolies in person but love Checkers Sixty60 online? No problem.
- Get up to 25% back at your chosen in-store partner
- Get up to 25% back at your chosen online partner
- Earn up to 10% back at the non-preferred stores
Choose wisely — you can only switch once every 12 months!
Do I get penalized for buying “junk”?
✅ No, your cashback isn’t affected. Whether you’re buying baby spinach or a slab of chocolate, your HealthyFood rewards (Ðiscovery Miles) stay the same — as long as you’re buying qualifying items and swiping your linked card.
⚠️ But your Vitality points are affected.
Here’s how it works:
- You earn +20 points for each HealthyFood item.
- You lose -20 points for each unhealthy item (think chips, sugary drinks, or bacon).
- That said, your points can never drop below zero — worst case, you earn no points from that shop.
- You can earn up to 1,000 Vitality points per month, or 12,000 per year from HealthyFood.
🛒 And yes… we see you
If you’re one of those shoppers who quietly splits your groceries — HealthyFood in one basket, “treats” in another (you know who you are) — just know this:
👉 The only real impact is on your Vitality points — up to 1,000 per month. Your cashback stays the same regardless so it’s really not necessary.
How do I check my rewards or partner status?
Log in to the Discovery app or website — it’s all in your profile.
